College of Science Diversity and Equity Innovation Grants

Program Overview: The purpose of this grant program is to provide resources for units to test bold new strategies for increasing diversity and equity in the working and educational environment in units across the College of Science.

Eligibility: Each of the five academic departments (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, and Statistics) as well as the Cyclotron is eligible to submit one Innovation Grant proposal each year. Collaborative proposals involving two or more college units will be considered separately and do not count toward the departmental limit.

Funding Amounts: Maximum funding amount is $10,000.

Application Materials: Proposals are limited to 2 pages (excluding budget) and should include the following components:

  • Aims and Objectives: What are you proposing to do? What are the objectives of this project?
  • Methods and Strategies: What methods will be used to implement the project and what is the rationale for using them? What are the strategies and methods to ensure that participation in this project is achieved?
  • Impact: Why is this project important to carry out? What needs will be met? What is the impact of the expected outcomes?
  • Challenges: What are the challenges you expect to encounter in implementing and reaching desired outcomes and how will you address them?
  • Evaluation Plan: How will the success of the project be evaluated? Funded projects will be required to provide a detailed final report and evaluation.
  • Budget Justification: Explain how and when funds will be spent.

Proposals should be accompanied by a supporting letter from a department head/program director. Evidence of support from departmental diversity committees can be included.
